Abstract

The effects of three N levels (60, 90 and 120 kg/fed), biofertilization and microelements on growth, yield and juice quality characters of sugar beet cultivar Pleno were investigated under sprinkler and drip irrigation systems. Therefore, two field experiments were conducted at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Agriculture, Suez Canal University in each season, 2002/2003 and 2004/2005.
The data of the growth characters were recorded at 120, 150, 180 and 210 days from sowing, under the two irrigation systems. While the data of the yield and juice quality characters were recorded at 210 days from sowing.
The highest values for growth, yield and juice quality characters were obtained with the application of 120 kg N/fed with the exception of juice purity%, in the two seasons and under both irrigation systems. 120 kg N/fed deviated significantly with 60 kg N/fed and almost with applying 90 kg N/fed regarding their effect on all the studied characters, in the two seasons and under both irrigation systems. Biofertilization and microelements had favorable effect on all studied characters, in the two seasons and under both irrigation systems, but they were not effective in saving on amounts of mineral fertilizers.
