Abstract
This work was conducted to make bacteriological and histopathological studies on Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection in chickens. The present study revealed that 43 cases from 210 infected chickens were positive to Pseudomonas aeruginosa with an incidence (20.5%) and the incidence of infection decreases with increase of age. All isolates were studied biochemically and gave the same result of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Serotyping of 43 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were done and results recorded that poly II M and poly III D gave high percentage (16.3%) for each and for poly III F, I A, III E, II J recorded an incidence 14%, 9.3%, 7%, 2.3% respectively and 15 strains untypable (34.8%). On study the antibiotics sensitivity for 43 isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa against 12 antimicrobial agents, all strains were sensitive to Danox and ciprofloxacin 100% for each and on the other hand all isolates were resistant to amoxycillin, chloramphenicol, cephalothin and penicillin G. Histopathological examination of different internal organs of chickens revealed grossly congestion of liver with necrotic foci, sever enteritis, congestion of spleen, heart and lung, while microscopically bronchitis and emphysematous areas, focal hemorrhagic areas were scattered on the lung tissue, heart showing myocardial degeneration, edema and leucocytic infiltration, spleen showing congestion of blood vessels and necrosis of white pulp and liver showing congestion of blood vessels, coagulative necrosis of the hepatic cells and focal aggregation of the inflammatory cells.
