Abstract In the present research, five fungi were isolated from melon plants suffered from sudden wilt disease . These fungi were identified as Fusarium solani , Macrophomina phaseolini , Monosporascus cannonballus , Pythium aphanydermatum and Rhizoctonia solani. Fusarium solani was considered as the maximum frequently isolated pathogen from sudden wilted cantaloupe plants, while Monosporascus cannonballus was the least frequent one. Some factors affecting the disease occurrence i.e., water saturation, distance between irrigation nozzles, and plant beds, types of soils, varietals reaction and host range were studied. All cantaloupe cultivars were affected with sudden wilt. All cucurbit hosts were infected with the causal organisms of sudden wilt. Capritop and Topsin M were the most effective fungicides in controlling the tested pathogens of sudden wilt disease. Trichoderma ressei was most effective biocontrol agent for the different causal organisms. |
