Abstract Counselling is a vital component of FP services through which the client is offered choices of contraceptive method, given guidance in deciding on the contraceptive method which, is best to use in her situation Studies shed light on principal problem represented by the lack of physician-patient communication and deficient counselling. The aim of the present study was to study the effectivity of FP counselling approaches followed by PHC physicians in Alexandria by: •1. Assesment of communication skills of PHC physicians providing FP services. 2. Assesment of the effectivity of the different counselling approaches on the consumer acceptance for FP. To conduct the present study the following techniques were used: 1- An observation checklist was designed and used for all physicians working in six comprehensive, integrated PHC centres distributed over Alexandria to asses their level of communication skills and deciding their counselling approaches during counselling sessions (n=600) 2- An interview questionnaire was designed and subjected to the same FP consumers who had already been counselled (n=600) to asses their satisfaction, acceptance and outcome of each FP counselling session. |
