Abstract

The present thesis consists of six chapters:
Chapter I
This chapter includes a general introduction on the drugs used in our investigations concerning their structures, physical properties, pharmaceutical preparations, pharmacological actions, uses and literature review.
Chapter 11
In this chapter two antihyperlipoproteinemic drugs bezafibrate and fenofibrate have been determined in their pharmaceutical preparations and in human plasma, after deproteination with methanol, by conversion to their nitro-derivatives which have been identified by JR and ‘H-NMR analysis. The produced nitro-derivatives have been measured spectrophotometrically either directly at 339 and 325 nm for bezafibrate and fenofibrate, respectively or after conversion to a Meisenheimer complex; and by differential pulse polarography over the concentration ranges of 1.5-4.5 .tg m11 and 0.2-0.9 pg ml1 for the two drugs, respectively.
Chapter III
In this chapter three drugs namely acetylcysteine, captopril and indapamide were determined in their pharmaceutical preparations through nitrosation. The formed S- and N-nitroso derivatives were measured by differential pulse polarography in Britton-Robinson buffer pH 4, and spectrophotometrically, after aikalini.zation, at 328, 328 and 372 nm for the three drugs, respectively. Being easily nitrosated, it was found useful in the assessment of cancer risk to check the presence of the nitroso-derivatives of the drugs of concern in gastric juice to get information about their possible in-vivo production.
