Abstract There is an increasing evidence that pre-eclampsia is a maternal systemic inflammatory disease during pregnancy associated with endothelial cell activation and endothelial cell dysfunction endothelial dysfunction is a part of generalized intravascular inflammatory reaction which can be considered as the extreme end of maternal adaptation to pregnancy this inflammatory response is much greater than that seen in normal pregnancy studies have shown that markers of endothelial cell activation are increased in pre-eclampsia and there is generation of proinflammatory cytokines with pre-eclampsia such as the inflammatory cytokine C-reactive protein . |
