Abstract The study in this thesis is concerned with the synthesis of two series of 4-phenyl-56,7,8-tetrahydroquinoline derivatives as potential agents for treatment of Alzheirner’s disease. The first series contains this partially hydrogenated quinoline ring system in isolated form while in the other it existed as pyrazolotetrahydroquinol me tricyci ic system. The study is presented in various chapters as follows: Introduction: It comprises a review of the literature showing the different mechanisms for treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and the drugs involved in each respect. Physostigmine and several of its derivatives was presented as an important group of natural products with high efficacy in treatment of Alzheirner’s disease. Tacrine and other tetrahydroacridine derivatives were presented as efficient cholinesterase inhibitors with high therapeutic index that is associated with adverse effects. Also presented are various piperidine derivatives with substituents that varied from aromatic system to heterocyclic ring residues. |
