Abstract Basic Background study on the difference spectra of the target compounds (reserpine and yohimbine) This part describes the basic principles of the difference spectrophotometry and its importance. It also includes the difference absorbance spectra used in this thesis, determination of maxima (MAX), minima (MIN) and isosbestic points (ISO) in all of these spectra. Deduction of the correction factors used in the calculations is also presented. Part II Quantitative determination of reserpine in pharmaceutical preparations This part presents two different techniques for the determination of reserpine in pharmaceutical preparations I- Determination of reserpine and rescinnamine by difference spectrophotometry The method was carried out by alkaline hydrolysis of the alkaloids; the difference absorbance spectra of the liberated acids (reserpic acid and TMB in case of reserpine and TMC in case of rescinnamine) were recorded in acidic versus in alkaline solutions. It was found that the hydrolytic products of some tablets ingredient. |
