Abstract

SUMMARY
The present study were carried out in El-Montazah, El-Maamoura Ornamental Research Department (ARC) and Bab shark square gardens during years from 2004 till 2006 .
It aims to estimate the population density of the common insect – pests attacking the sago and Arizona ornamental palm tree in Alexandria governorate and to evaluate some phytocompounds as an environmentally safe approach in the control of these insect – pests.
5.1. Survey and population ecology of detected scale insect and mealy bugs individuals on California fan palm (Washingtonia filifera) and Sago palm (Cycas revoluta).
5.1.1. Annual population change of Mycetaspis personata on Washingtonia felifera on El-Mamoura research garden.
Mycetaspis personata recorded in considerable high number on Arizona ornamental palm (Washingtonia felifera )
The calculated averages of insected Mycetaspis personata individuals on the sampled leaves of Washingtonia felifera regional during the following growing season of December 2004 up to November 2006, indicated a prominent stability in the infestation occurrence of this scale – insect on its host all around the year
Whereas the more or less higher calculated insignificant mean values of occurring scale – insect individuals 8 leaves/6 Inch2 were recorded in most of the months of the year. with a clear short interval occupied the following months of December up to January in both the growing seasons showed some what decreased mean values of inspected scale–insect followed by, to a more or less, increased mean values throughout the consequent months of the year from march till November.
Included data showed that in the first season of December 2004 – November 2005 there are three peaks during May, August and November 2005. The highest one was in August with average of 184.17 individuals. During the second year December 2005 – November 2006 there are four peaks of February 2006, April, August and November 2006. The lowest one was in February and the highest one was during August 2006.
5.1.2. Annual population change of Saissetia coffeae on Cycas revoluta on
Bab shark square garden.
Data show the insignificant calculated higher mean values of inspected immature throughout the years of 2004 -2005 were recorded in January winter month (19, in respect), in spring months of March (9.50) and May (11.16) and in summer month July (7.33, in respect) Another trend of result was detected in the following years of 2004- 2005. Indicating more or less insignificant high mean values throughout most of monthly the months of December, March, June and July which showed insignificant more decreas
