Abstract
It is well documented that fused pyrimidines possess diverse pharmacological activities. Thiazolopyrimidines as well as thienopyri-midines are of particular interest and possess wide range of biological activity specially antimicorbial, anticancer, antipsychotic and anti-inflammatory activities. Accordingly, various series of new substituted thiazolopyrimidines, thienopyrimidines and triazolothienopyrimidines were synthesized. The prepared compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity besides, seven of the prepared compounds were chosen by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), Bethesda, Maryland, U.S.A. for anticancer screening against various cell lines. The thesis is subdivided into the following chapters.
Chapter I : Introduction
It covers a brief survey on the recent researches on biologically active thiazolo[4,5-d]pyrimidines possessing antimicrobial, antiviral, anticancer and antiinflammatory activities. Furthermore, it covers the recent literature of the biologically active tetrahydrobenzothieno[2,3-d] pyrimidines as well as triazolotetrahydrobenzothienopyrimidines as antimicrobial, anticancer, cardiovascular, antiinflammatory and anti-convulsant agents.
Chapter II : Research objectives
It deals with the rational upon which the synthesized compounds have been designed.
Chapter III : Discussion
In this part the basic concepts of the various methods adopted for the synthesis of the designed compounds has been discussed.
