Abstract ABSRACT The present work is to develop rapid, accurate and economic visual spectrophotometric methods for the quantitative determination of gentamicin sulphate, neomycin sulphate, streptomycin sulphate and vancomycin hydrochloride as antibiotics drugs either in bulk form or in commercial pharmaceutical formulations. The proposed methods are indirect procedures, involving the addition of an excess KMnO4 and the determination of unreacted oxidant by the decrease in absorbance of four different dyes such as, amaranth (AM), acid orange II (AO), indigocarmine (IC) and methylene blue (MB). In order to find the optimum analytical conditions for the spectrophoto-metric determination of gentamicin, neomycin, streptomycin and vancomycin and to find out the analytical characteristic of the method, we investigate here the influence of oxidant concentration, type of acids, dye concentration, temperature and sequence of addition. The values of the molar absorptivity, sandell sensitivity and stoichiometry, will be determined. The developed methods will be applied for the determination of the studied drugs in pure form and the commercial market samples. |
