Abstract

Since the industrial revolution, the machine has dramatically changed the social and technological organization of culture. By entering the information age and with the great progresses that the communication technologies have reached, changes in the concepts of spaces, time, and human relationships will occur. The person seems to be living now in small world that has the opportunity to reach any information he wants, any time, any where. That puts a burden on the shoulders of the architect and the designer in general to find new ways of designing I construction and marketing to coincide the needs of this new age.
After the victory of the information revolution, the need for change became a market phenomenon on the turn of the 21 Sf century .As a result, changing life styles, the diversity of housing use requirements is increasing and demanding more flexible solutions. The generative and creative potential of digital media, together with manufacturing advances already attained in other sister industries such as automotive, aerospace and ship building industries, is opening up new dimensions for residential architecture.
The silent revolution of mass customization is bringing the benefits of factory production to the creation of series of similar elements differentiated through digitally controlled variation. A combination of advances in information and technology is making it increasingly possible to ’mass-customize’ and to rapidly respond to consumers with customized products at mass-production prices. What we really need is a new vision of process not just a product .A vision of an integrated process in which a collective intelligence replaces the architect’s singular imposed intelligence.
The Internet has enhanced the power of Mass Customization where individual users and business partners can now quench their individual needs through the Internet. It now plays an important role to become an essential medium for communication, data collection and information distribution . The design of a customized house will rely on such a device where the design and computational interface will ultimately be accessible via the WWW . The researcher thinks of adopting the mass customization concept and marketing method, which are being introduced in other industries to market mass customized houses. At the same time introduces the client to co-design in the design I construction process.
The main aim of the research is to emphasize on the importance of working on coinciding the futuristic changes and developing new concepts for marketing of future houses where design becomes a client centric method, reaching total mass customization in the design, also emphasizing on the need of change to on demand fabrication and applying it by CNC technologies which will make it possible to construct these houses which responds to the consumer’s needs and values at mass production prices.
The researcher oversees an opportunity to the client to choose from a number of options and co-design in the design process of his own living environment. A room arrangement selection support system that can run from an internet browser on a personal computer is being proposed by the researcher. The proposed web-site calls for constructing a website on the internet for transmitting and exchanging information efficiently and effectively with initial clients in order to take advantage of multi directional
Exchange between different participants in the design/construction process and the most updated information available .Design will be a CRITICAL SELLING POINT and design tools will change the way customers realize the vision of their home.
• Chapter 1: This chapter presents the previous the attempts of the modernist architects to mass produce and customize housing in the 20th century and to further re-examine the implications of a componential approach in contemporary architectural design practice, helping the reader to discover a new model for making places by learning lessons from the past assessing the present and looking to the future.
• Chapter 2 : This chapter introduces the reader to the great transition that has nearly touched every aspect of our life and the macro trends driving this revolution, leading to a new two way interactive world and also emphasizing on the inevitability of transition to an Open Source , leading to introducing new players in the design and fabrication of the residential architecture worldly addition, new processes that are applied in other collaborative industries will likely offer an elevation to the art of residential architecture; more control, higher quality, improved features and is opening up new dimensions in architectural design and construction.
• Chapter 3: The reader is introduced to the world of mass customization that is verging mass production, this makes it a vital important to touch this new silent revolution into architecture generally and residential architecture precisely emphasizing on the concept of individuality and effectiveness
Part two: The post industrial design / construction process or future customized houses
• Chapter 1: This chapter introduces the reader to mass customization though parametric design model, the generic housing development process model and the evolutionary method. The researcher adopts the new parametric model that places the client in the center of participative process via a design platform for non-experts. An interface which allows consumers to access sophisticated design tools without requiring them to think like an expert designer will be discussed.
• Chapter 2: Exploring the new architecture vocabulary of the fabrication and construction of the future houses focusing on the new approaches in production
Manufacturing environment and new emerging manufacturing technologies which are indeed needed to meet the new way of designing future homes. This chapter also introduces methods of industrialization, in addition of illustrating by different experimental examples.
• Chapter 1 the researcher discusses the details about happened in the
backstage to produce the proposed software , identifying the 3 steps of the design process for non - expert designers :the information collection phase, the ISM 8Design transformations Studying how these design parameters being applied to the initial model ,using 3D MAX as a modeling and an animation application tool, also introducing the reader how to make the model comes alive by using Wire Fusion as a tool to produce the software needed by the client to experiment the proposed model by publishing it on the project web-site.
• Chapter 2: Project House-ill is presented and illustrated in terms of each page of the proposed web site, aiming to reach the clients to co-design in the non -expert design process leading to a high degree of customization .
