Tuberculosis is an old disease and considered as the most important communicable disease in the world and it constitutes a major cause of morbidity and mortality in most developing countries.

In Egypt, the ministry of health records estimated that new cases of smear positive pulmonary tuberculosis develop at a rate of 30-35/100.000 population.
This disease is caused by bacteria called mycobacterium tuberculosis which characterized by being straight or slightly curved bacilli, acid fast and non sporing.
There are two major patterns of pulmonary tuberculosis, primary tuberculosis which usually seen in children due to primary infection and secondary type which usually seen in adults as a reactivation of previous infection or reinfection by new bacilli.
The clinical picture varies from general to local symptoms mainly weight loss, night sweating, fever, chronic cough, chest pain and dyspnea. The signs in pulmonary tuberculosis have a little role in its diagnosis.
