Abstract
The aim of this work is:
1- To determine the amount of milk, and the protein, fat, and lactose content of milk produced by preterm delivered mothers. And to compare these values with that of term delivered mothers.
2- To evaluate the growth pattern of preterm infants cared in Kasr-EL-Eini premature unit, by follow up of the weight gain and crown heel length, and skull circumference of these infants and to study the process of feeding preterm infants with their mother’s milk and its effect in infant’s growth.
Conclusions:
1- The amount of milk produced by preterm delivered mothers is sufficient for feeding of their infants.
2- The high protein content of preterm delivered mothers’ milk is a adequate for the growth of preterm infants.
3- The caloric concentration of preterm delivered mothers’ milk is lower than that suggested for preterm infants.
4- The breast milk of preterm delivered mother may be one of the best nutrients for her infant.
5- The providence of mothers’ milk for preterm infants cared in premature centres is a difficult process.
6- The growth of the studied preterm infants was below the standared.
