Abstract A total of 100 swabs were obtained from the side surface of 100 cattle and buffalo carcasses surfaces as 50 swabs from the modern abattoirs (25 swabs from each of cattle and buffaloe) and another 50 swabs were collected from traditional abattoirs (25 swabs from each of cattle and buffalo). The collected swabs were examined bacteriologically. The result revealed that: 1. The mean value of Total bacterial count, Enterobacteriaceae count, Coliform count, Enterococci count, Staphylococcus aureus count, Mould count and yeast count were 1.3x1O±3.2x10, 1.6x103±3.2x 102, 1 .ox10±i .8x102, 6.6x102±1 .2x102, 6.7x102±3.1 x102, 48x102± 1.0>102 and 7.1x102±1.8x102/cm2. Cattle carcasses surfaces in modern abattoirs respectively. While in traditional abattoirs were 1 .5x1o6±3.1 xio, 1 .3x10±1 •9>jQ3, 6.7>10± i.3>10, 7.1>10, 5.1 >1o±1 .2x10, 4.8x1O±7.1 x102 and 3.4x10± 1 .7>102/cm2 of cattle carcasses surfaces respectively 2. There were significant differences P<0.05 between the mean values of total bacterial count, Enterobacteriaceae count, Coliform count, Enterococci count, Staphylococcus aureus count, Mould count and yeast countlcm2 of cattle carcasses surfaces in both modern and traditional abattoirs. 3. The mean values of total bacterial count, Enterobacteriaceae count, Coliform count, Enterococci count, Staphylococcus aureus count, Mould count and Yeast count were 1.1 xl 05±2.7x 1 o4, 4•9x 1 o3±i 3x I o3, 1.3x104±3.6x103, 6.1x102±7.8x10, 2.8x102±5.8x10 and 3.1x102±2.4x 10/cm2 buffalo carcasses surfaces in modern abattoirs respectively. While in traditional abattoirs were 2.3x106±3.lx io5, 27 x 1O±4.2 x io3, 9.2x10±1.7x1O, 4.7x1Q±1.1x10, 5.6x1O±1.2x1O, 33x1O± 1.2x103 and 2.3x103±1.6x102/cm2, buffaloe carcasses surfaces respectively. 4. There were significant differences P<0.05 between the mean values of total bacterial count, Enterobacteriaceae count, Coliform count, Enterococci count, Staphylococcus aureus count, Mould count and Yeast count/cm2 of buffaloe carcasses surfaces’ in both modern and traditional abattoirs. 5. The difference between the means of total bacterial count, Enterobacteriaceae count and Coliform count/cm2 carcasses surfaces of cattle and buffaloe were significant in both modern and traditional abattoirs. |
