Abstract Polyvinl alcohol was one of the wide used polymers in many applications. Some modifications are accomplished for the improvement of the properties of this polymer. Heat treatment, gamma radiation and doping of that polymer were some of these modifications. Ploy(vinyl alcohol) films were prepared by using the casting method. Heat treatment of PVA led to three prime temperatures at 70,85 and 120ºC. The crystallinity index was used as a reference for the following investigation because it gave an indication about the physical and mechanical properties. The crystallinity index (or lamellae thickness) demonstrated the maximum values. At temperatures 70°C and 120°C while a minimum value was obtained at 85°C. These transition temperature are manifested with different techniques like optical absorbance, in the visible-ultraviolet,near,IR, DSC(differential scanning calorimeter), and TGA(Thermal gravitational analysis). Two treating temperature at 30°C and 70°C are chosen to make a further investigations about that polymer. Gamma radiation effect on treated polymer revealed the increase of the lamellae thickness to a maximum value when irradiating the polymer with 10 KGy(at 30°C) and 5 KGy (at 70°C). |
