Abstract

In this study we try to evaluate the effectiveness, reality, reliability, and feasibility of laparoscopic Truncal Vagotomy in the treatment of peptic ulcer disease and the need for postoperative endoscopic balloon dilatation of the pylorus in patients developing post vagotomy gastric stasis on long term follow-up.
In conclusion, laparoscopic bilateral truncal vagotomy is a fast, simple and effective procedure that offers a good alternatives to the long term medical treatment with a high incidence of recurrence and a lower ulcer healing rate.
Also, it is relatively save operation with minimal intraoperative complications, negligible postoperative squeal and very low incidence of postoperative gastric stasis.
Nowadays, in the era of minimally invasive procedures, Laparoscopic Truncal Vagotomy is more or less an ideal solve to the problem of peptic ulcer disease, that suits the educational and socioeconomic circumstances of our patients, but longer follow-up may be needed to assure the reliability of this statement.
