Abstract Infertility defined as failure to conceive after 1 year of unprotected coitus, affects approximately 15% of married couples. It is estimated that in 40% of infertile couples the man is infertile which in the general population equals 5% to 10% married men.Semen analysis is the corner stone of the evaluation of the infertile male. Technological advances have provided new opportunities for a more reliable ”semen analysis”. This is achieved through computerized semen analyzers (CASA).Poor sperm motility (asthenospermia) is associated with low fertilization rates in vivo and in vitro. Intrauterine insemination has been tned to overcome the problem of poor motility. Sperm wash before insemination is essential to separate sperms from the seminal plasma and select sperms with the best motility. In an attempt to enhance sperm motility several agents were tried in vitro (e.g. caffeine and pentoxifylline). These agents act by increasing the local level . |
