Abstract The aim of this work is to study the role of MRI in evaluation of Musculotendinous and ligamentous injuries in traumatic knee. Ninety patients presented to the radiology department, EL-Minia oncology center complaining of knee trauma. They were subjected to full history taking, thorough clinical examination, and plain x-ray and MRI examination. Age of patient’s ranged from 19-82 years. Only 10% of patients were females & 90% were males. The most commonly encountered presentation was pain followed by giving way and sense of instability. In knee injuries, MRI is the firs step to go in diagnosis of selective injuries before the attempt of arthroscopy, as the high diagnostic yield of MRI in patients in acute cases were examination is not possible because of the severe tenderness and for whom the clinical diagnosis is doubtful. Its accuracy should allow elimination of the need for arthroscopy in doubtful patients who were considered on clinical ground to have meniscal or ligament injury and more appropriate directing of arthroscopy to patients likely to obtain therapeutic benefits. The high cost should be evaluated in the light of the expected diagnostic value and the potential benefit of the patient. Relevant history and physical examination should be included in the clinical information submitted with the patient. Information especially helpful to the radiologist includes clinical history regarding prior knee surgeries and dates of prior injuries. Knee MRI protocols should be designed to yield diagnostic images of the menisci, bones, articular cartilage, and ligamentous structures of the knee. |
