Abstract

Preparation of phosphoric acid from Abu-Tartur phosphate deposits was achieved using sulfuric acid which gives P2O5 of conversion efficiency reaching 88.85 and 92.41% for medium and high grades phosphate deposits, respectively. Six controlling factors which affect the production of phosphoric acid from medium and high grades of Abu-Tartur phosphate were studied. The results showed that the best conditions for the production process are; stirring time 9 and 8hrs for medium and high grades, respectively, temperature 70ºC, H2SO4 : Ca3(PO4)2 ratio 3:1 (M:M), added phosphoric acid of P2O5 concentration 20%, added water to H2O : Ca3(PO4)2 ratio 15:1 (M:M) and added H3PO4 with constant concentration 20% to Ca3(PO4)2 ratio 15:1 (M:M). Applying these conditions on the proposed flow sheet, it was found that a high P2O5 conversion efficiency is achieved.
