Abstract

Summary
The present study was performed to examine the effect of two types of anticoccidial drugs in case of experimental infection by 5x105 of sporulated oocyst of Eimeria tenella in 80-chicken one day old Hubbard bread.
The two types of the anticoccidial drugs of choice are amprolium (amprolium 20%) and toltrazuril (Baycox) each drug was given in two different doses, the two drugs were applied after appearing of clinical signs (bloody diarrhea), and continued for 3 successive weeks.
Eighty chicks of one day old Hubbard bread were divided into eight groups each one consists of ten birds:
- Group C: non-infected, non-treated (control).
- Group INT: infected, non-treated.
- Group A1: infected, treated with sub therapeutic dose of amprolium.
- Group A2: infected, treated with therapeutic dose of amprolium.
-Group NA2: non-infected treated with therapeutic dose of amprolium.
- Group T1: infected, treated with sub therapeutic dose of toltrazuril.
- Group T2: infected, treated with therapeutic dose of toltrazuril.
-Group NT2: non- infected treated with therapeutic dose of toltrazuril.
Body weight, blood picture and biochemical parameters were evaluated for all groups.
The results are as follows:
1-The effect on body weight:
The infection with caecal coccidiosis cause significant decrease in body weight.
2-The effect on blood picture:
The infection with caecal coccidiosis cause significant decrease in RBCs count, hemoglobin concentration, and PCV % as a result of bloody diarrhea,
There was significant leukocytosis, heterophilia, lymphopenia, monocytosis appeared after infection with caecal coccidiosis.
3-The effect on liver and kidney functions:
The infection with caecal coccidiosis cause significant decrease in serum protein and albumin.
The infection with caecal coccidiosis cause significant increase in liver enzymes (AST&ALT) and uric acid level.
Treatment with therapeutic dose of amprolium and toltrazuril restored the changes in the body weight, blood picture and biochemical parameters. There is no significant effect produced by amprolium or toltrazuril in non-infected treated groups.
