Abstract The present study was proceeded to describe the clinical, haematological and pathological picture associated with the exposure of rats to some molluscicidal agents, copper sulphate and damsissa. The experimental rats were 80 weaned albino rats including 30 males and 30 females. The level of the copper sulphate was 10 ppm, and of damsissa was.i:500 in the drinking water. The clinical signs were only observed in male rats which were exposed to copper sulphate and were represented by reduced gain of body weight. The studied haematological parameters ( haemoglobiri content Hb gm %, packed cell volume and erythrocytic count) were generally increased in the beginning of the experiment in case of rats treated with either copper sulphate or damsissa. During the 3rd week of the experiment, the above mentioned blood parameters showed a sharp drop followed by increase during the 4thand 5th weeks. The white blood cell count was sharply decreased (leucopenia). The differential leuckocytic count showed lymphocytosis throughout the experiment and neutropenia in rats which were treated with copper sulphate or damsissa. With regard to the pathologic findings, it was evident that such findings were more pronounced in rats which were treated with copper sulphate than those treated with damsissa. |
