Abstract Two hundred quails with age ranging between 7 days to 6 months old were collected from different farms at Dakahlia province, Port Said and Kafer El-Sheikh province. These quails were submitted to bacteriological, parasitological and pathological examinations. The bacteriological and biochemical identification declared the presence of Escherichia coli ’ in 125 cases (62.5%), Clostridium colinum in 36 cases (18%). The parasitological examination declared the presence of protozoal species specially coccidiosis in 36 quails samples (18%), nematodes (Ascaridia galli) in two quail (1 %) and cestodes in one quail (0.5%). The clinical signs of quail infected with E. coli (colibacillosis) were respiratory manifestation, severe weakness, depression, retardation of growth and diarrhea. The mortality rate among infected flock reached to 90% in younger age. The macroscopic finding in this work were hyperemia and enlargement of the internal organ with the yellowish coloration of liver in some cases beside fibrinous pericarditis, perihepatitis, air saculitis together with congested and edematous lungs with presence of pneumonic nodular areas. Catarrhal enteritis, necrotic areas in liver and spleenomegaly were also recorded. |
