Abstract

1- The possible role of animals in the transmission of mites to man has been investigated due to the public health importance of this zoonosis.
2- Microscopic examination of skin scrapings obtained from 450 animals was carried out (50cattle, 50baffaloes, 50equines, 50dogs, 50cats. 50rabbits, 50binds, 25rates, 25mice and 50sheep).
3- A total of 250persons were subjected to skin examination, including 91school children, 100adult persons out patients presented to Dermatology department in Kalyibia Hospital, and a high risk group farmers 59.
4- The prevalence rate of infested animals in examined cases amounted to :
Cattle 8%
Buffalo 24%
Sheep 6%
Rabbit 24%
Dogs 8%
Rats 8%
Mice 8%
Poultry 6%
5- Samples from equines , cats failed detection of mites.
6- Samples from rabbits , buffaloes , sheep , rats and mice revealed sarcoptic and pscroptic mites only but samples from cattle and dogs reveled sarcoptic and demodex mites , samples from poultry show Dermanssyus gallinae only.
7- Artificial infestation of rabbit by sarcoptic mites revealed mites after 24hours.
8- By examination of mites for the possibility of transmission of bacteria by Maconky agar media culture of mites, 3type of bacteria are present on media, Staph. aureus, Clostridium preferings and E.coli.
9- Mites were cultivated on Hollister media and increased in number according to time of cultivation.
10- To determine the efficacy of some available acaricides in the control of animals mites field trials were made on infected animals.
In dogs :
butox 0.5/litre , Neocidol (0.1%) were the most effective in the 3rd and the 4th week post treatment respectively by spray Ivomec 200mg/kg . b. wt.) proved 100% efficacy at the 5th week post treatment.
In buffaloes :
Neocidol 0.1% spray
Butox 0.5ml/litre spray
Proved 100% efficacy on the 3rd and 5th week.
Post treatment respectively Ivomec, s/c at a rate of 200mg/kg b. wt. proved 100% efficacy on the 3rd week p.t.
In rabbits :
Ivomec 200mg/kg. b. w. , s/c infection proved 100% efficacy on the 5th week p.t. while at concentration of 400mg/kg . b. wt. on the 2nd week p.t.
butox 0.5ml/litre , proved 100% efficacy at 3rd week.
Neocidol at 0.1% proved 100% efficacy at 3rd week.
In sheep:
Ivomec (sk) 200mg/kg b.wt. proved 100% efficacy on the 5th week p.t. while at 400mg/kg. b.wt. proved efficacy 100% at 4th week p.t.
Neocidol 0.1% spray.
Butox 0.5ml/litre proved 100% efficacy at 3rd week p.t.
In cattle :
Neocidol 0.1% efficacy 100% in 3rd week p.t.
Butox 0.5cm/litre efficacy 100% at 3rd week p.t.
Ivomec 200mg/kg. b.wt. efficacy 100% at 3ed week p.t.
11- The public health importance of.
12- Animal mites was discussed.
13- Recommendation for control of animal mites were given .
14- The approved treatment for human mites was indicated.
15- Dermatitis in man caused by animal mites is more beign than that caused by the human mites , and the animal mites don’t excavate tunnels in human skin , spontaneous heeling may take place due to mites of animals don’t reproduce at all or do so only for short time.
16- The incidence percentages of mites dermatitis.
1) School children 8%.
2) Adults in hospitals 3%.
3) Farmers 10.2%.
17- Human infection with mites from :
1) Dogs and puppies .
2) Buffaloes , Birds , Rabbits , Rates , Mice , Sheep , Cattle , and transmitted by infested animals or by contaminated objects.
