Abstract

Nine selected species belonging to different tribes of family Cruciferae native to Egypt were studied from the botanical, chemical and numerical point of view.
The botanical part included the study of morphological and anatomical characters.
The vegetative morphology was described from fresh specimens. The anatomical investigation was
carried out through hand-microtome cross sections for stems, petioles and leaves.
Three vasculature types of the petioles are recorded; two of them are compatible with those previously detected by Metcalf &Chalk (1950) and one was recorded by Ambarak (2005) as a new vasculature type in Cruciferae.
The chemical part included a detailed study of the flavonoids present. Thirty eight compounds were isolated
and identified; three of them were isolated for the first time from nature.
Their structures were established on the basis of detailed
chemical analysis (complete and partial acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis and ferric chloride degradation) as well as spectral analysis (UV, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, APT, HMBC, FABMS, ESIMS and EIMS).
The numerical analysis based on a combination of 97 morphological, anatomical and chemical characters revealed two series, two sub series, two clusters and two groups.
The interrelationships between the studied species were discussed.
