Abstract

Famotidine is a member of H2-receptor antagonist drugs, which pharmacological action primarily involves antagonism of the action of histamine at its H2-receptors. The therapeutic application of this antegonism is the treatment of acid peptic disorders ranging from heart burn to peptic ulcer disease, Zolinger-Ellison syndrome, gastroeosophageal reflux disease, acute stress ulcer and erosion. The aim of this study is a trial to improve the bioavailability of famotidine through formulation of the drug in sublingual tablets form. In prder to achieve this aim , the work in this thesis is divided into three main chapters: I: Famotidine -excipients compatibility studied . II : Formulation and in-vitro evaluation of famotidine sublingual tablets. III: Bioavailability and bioequivalence studies of famotidine sublingual tablets.
