المستخلص

The adipocyte-derived hormone adiponectin regulates glucose and lipid metabolism in muscle and liver and influences the risk for developing obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Adiponectin binds to three different receptors termed AdipoR1, AdipoR2 and T- cadherin.
To study the possible role of adiponectin in ameliorating insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes, we measured the plasma level of adiponectin hormone and mRNA level of AdipoR1 in the skeletal muscle of male albino rats fed on high fat diet, inducing obesity and insulin resistance, and in streptozotocin-induced type 2 diabetic rats. Both adiponectin hormone and AdipoR1 expression were decreased in obese-diabetic and obese-non diabetic rats fed on high fat diet compared to the control rats and their levels increased after insulin treatment.
