Abstract

The diagnosis, management and treatment of the various forms of acute coronary syndrome have been rapidly evolving in recent years.
Registry data are extremely important because of the information on patients who are frequently left out of clinical trials, such as the elderly or female patients12. Additionally, the registries allow an assessment of the acceptance and practice of new treatments by the medical community that tends to resist change despite supportive evidence and guideline recommendations for new types of therapy. Examples for ACS registries include the GRACE and GRACE2, the first and the second EHS survey and ACTION registry.
In Egypt, it was observed the overwhelming increase in the number of ischemic heart disease patients and the change in the natural history of the disease affecting certain classes of patients particulary young age and women in addition to the aggressive nature in many patients. However, there are no documented registries to assess the criteria and parameters of ACS in Egyptian patients.
So the registry of ACS patients at our department was created to document baseline clinical characteristics, ACS modes of presentation, medical treatment during in-hospital stay, and clinical progress.
