Abstract This study aimed to discuss one method of each main category of urinary diversion, namely ureterosigmoidostomy, ileal conduit and cutaneous ureterostomy. Each procedure has its own advantages and disadvantages, however, each could be suitable for a selected group of patients. The advantages of ileal conduit diversion over ureterosigmoidostomy include minimal risk of serious recurrent renal infections due to absence of fecal contamination, less chances for intestinal absorption since the ileum dose not serve as a reservoir but as a conduit. Cutaneous ureterostomy is considered the most simple operative procedure, speedy, and best suitable for poorly physical patients. |
