Abstract There are many modalities for management of morbid obesity : Dietary, drugs and gastric balloon. Although dieting remains the most useful method of weight control for most individuals, it is generally ineffective for morbidity obese. The long-term nonsurgical management of morbid obesity by any combination of modalities has usually been unsuccessful. A variety of surgical procedures on the stomach and intestines have been done with varying success and complication rates. Teeth wiring as a permanent method of producing weight loss is useless because all patients will regain weight as soon as the wires are removed. At present, the vertical ring or banded gastroplasty (VBG) is the most popular operation for morbid obesity because it is physiologic, safe, and fairly effective. |
