Abstract

The duties of a forensic toxicologist in postmortem investigations include the qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs or poisons in biological specimens collected at autopsy and the interpretation of the analytic findings in regard to the physiologic and behavioral effects of the detected chemicals on the deceased at the time of death. This study was conducted from September to March in our department. Thirty six adult female albino rats with average body weight 225 gm / kg. b.wt. were divided into three equal groups as following:*1st group: used as control (anesthetized by diethyl ether)*2nd group: orally administered single dose of 400 mg/kg.bwt DZN(LD50)* 3rd group: orally administered single dose of 225mg/kg.bwt of Cd Cl2)LD50). Clinical signs were recorded in both treated groups compared with control till death. Rats of control group were killed by inhalation of diethyl ether. Half of dead rats in all groups were quickly dissected for histopathological study, estimation of IV of fresh subcutaneous and visceral fat and Residual analysis. The other half of dead rats in all treated group were submerged in opened glass container previously filled with dechlorinated tap water (one cadaver / container) kept in closed room with an open air access for three months. Observation of external morphology of cadavers, water clearance and recording ambient were done weakly till the end of the experiment and subjected again to Residual analysis & Estimation of IV.
