Abstract

This study was done to evaluate ILT infection among different breed in Sharkia, Dakahlia and Gharbia governorates during the period from December 2001 to February 2005 beside studying pathogenicity of field isolate in Native breed (Saso). The majority of investigated outbreaks characterized by mild to severe typical signs and lesions, represented by coughing, sneezing, gasping, rales, dyspnea, extension of head and neck in addition to blood expectoration of tracheal origin with mucus and conjunctivitis. The postmortem lesions were observed mainly in larynx and trachea in the form of mucoid exudate to blood clot. Microscopically, histopathological changes obtained were consider diagnostic to ILTV consisting of syncytial giant cells containing eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion (INI) bodies in the epithelial lining of tracheas, larynx, lungs, conjunctival tissues and CAM beside deciliation of desquamated epithelial cells, diphtheritic fibrinous membrane, hemorrhage and round cells infiltrations. The course of the disease was 7-13 days. All outbreaks were confirmed by isolation of the virus on chorioallantoic membrane (CAMs) of 10-11 day old embryonated chicken egg (ECE) from specimen of different affected tissues, from trachea, larynx, conjunctival tissue and lungs. Pathognomonic characteristic pock lesions were formed on CAM and characterized by proliferative plaques with opaque edge and depressed central areas of necrosis beside formation of eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in the epithelial lining of CAMs. The criteria used to identify the isolated virus which confirmed experimentally by infection to chickens.
