Abstract This study was carried out in UmGhafa Sheep Farm at AI- Ain, UAB, where copper deficiency is considered as one of the endemic problems facing authorized veterinarians in UAB. Most animals suffered from this problem showed acute or chronic copper deficiency .. Signs of deficiency were anaemia, motor dysfunction (swayback), diarrhea, loss of wool and wool depigmentation. Nagdi ewes weighing about 50-55kg were used in this study. This study was conducted in two directions. The first (prophylaxis against copper deficiency). The second treatment of deficiency. Three groups of pregnant ewes were chosen to be given the prophylactic doses of copper at the level of 2,4 and 6gm of copper oxide particles , while a fourth group was left as a control group given no treatment. The first prophylactic group was divided into six subgroups. They were given copper oxide (2gm / ewe) at zero - day, first, 2nd , 3rd ,4th and 5th months of pregnancy. The second prophylactic group was divided in the same manner -like 1 st group but given .copper oxide at 4gm per ewe . whereas, the 3rd prophylactic group was given 6 gm of copper oxide (2gm at first part of pregnancy, (0- day) 2gm at mid pregnancy (2.5 months) and 2gm at last part of pregnancy ( s” months). |
