Abstract

This study is concerned with Ihe prediction of the hydrodynamic characteristics of the How pattern around the ship hull form mid the velocity field at the propeller plane due to the variation of the hull form parameters LjB} ACfiand CB. This thesis includes five chapters, and a summary is given for each chapter.
Chapter. 1:
This chapter contains the introduction of this thesis: This introduction indicates the utility of using the computational method, CFD, to calculate the ship resistance. Additionally, this chapter gives another sign about the ability of the computational method, CFD, on anticipating the different hydrodynamic properties of the ship flow pattern and the changes in the velocity distribution at propeller plane that occur as a result of altering the hull form parameters, which represents a very important step in the initial design stage. As well, the introduction gives an indication about the objectives of this thesis.
Chapter 2:
In this chapter, the different components of ship resistance are discussed in accordance with the different approaches. Furthermore, the chapter gives a simple mathematical expression for the ship resistance.
The chapter states the different methods in use for evaluating the ship resistance. These methods are: traditional and standard series analysis methods, regression based methods, direct model test, computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Also, the properties of the wake filed and the methods in use for calculating the wake fraction have been pointed out in this chapter. -
Chapter 3:
This chapter gives and explains the actual denotation of the parameterization of the ship hull form. Moreover, the chapter demonstrates the consequences of varying the hull form parameters on the resistance and propulsion qualities of the ship hull form. The relationships between the hull form parameters have been discussed in this chapter.
