Abstract

In this work 864 dairy cattle were examined serologically for brucellosis. The results indicated that there were 146 cows (16.9%), 114 cows (16.3%) and 117 (13.5%) cows proved to be serologically positive when examined with RBT , BAPAT and Riv.test respectively. On the other hand there were 118 cows (13.7%) proved to be serologically positive with STAT.
Three hundreds animals suffered from clinical endometritis were selected for full bacteriological examination. Out of these, one hundred were selected from the brucella-seropositive, one hundred were brucella-seroregative and the last one hundred were brucella-vaccinated animals.
Two hundred and thirteen bacterial isolates were recovered from the three hundred examined animals. Out of these, 92 isolates were obtained from brucella-seropositive cows, 88 isolates from examind brucella-seroregative animals and only 33 bacterial isolates were recovered from brucella-vaccinated animals.
The total number of Gram-positive cocci was 132 isolates (44% of the bacterial isolates). Meanwhile the total number of Gram-positive bacilli was 13 isolates (4.3%of the bacterial isolates) and 68 Gram-negative bacterial isolates (22.7% of the bacterial isolates) were recovered from all examined animals.
It was noticed that out of 145 Gram positive bacterial isolates recovered, 36 (24.8%) isolates were Streptococcus pyogenes followed by Enterococcus facium 31 isolates (21.%), Streptococcus ubris 28 isolates (19.3%) followed by, in a descending manner 21 isolates Staphylococcus aureus (14.5%), 16 isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis (11%) and 13 isolates of Actinomyces pyogenes (8.9%).
On the other hand, out of sixty-eight Gram negative bacilli recovered from the bacteriologically examined animals there were 9 Proteus mirabilis isolates (13.23% of the total isolates ),8 Serratia liquefcien (11.78%), 7 isolate of each of Enterobacter cloacae , Escherichia coli , klelsiella oxytoca , Plesiomonas shigelloides and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (10.3% each) followed by 8 isolates of Salmonella arizonae (8.82%) and 5 isolates of each of Citrobacter freuendii and kluyvera spp.
Studing the sensitivity of the prevalent bacterial isolates recovered aganist 13 different antimicrobial agents,it was found that isolates Streptococcus pyogenes were highly sensitive to penicillin and amoxycillin.
Concerning the other related group of Streptocccal species (Enterococcus facium and Streptococcus ubris) there was a great sensitivity to ciprofloxacin and amoxycillin. The five isolates of Staphylococcus aureus examined were found to be sensetive to spectinomycin, penicillin , amoxycillin, enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and amoxycillin. On the other hand Staphylococcus epidermidis exhibited a high degree of sensitivity towards doxycycline, ciprofloxacin and spectinomycin.
It was interesting to notice that all examind isolates namely: Proteus mirabilis , Enterobacter cloacae , Plesiomonas shigelloides were highly sensitive to quinolones, where all isolates recorded 100% sensitivities to enrofloxacin, ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin.
All experimentally examined isolates of Streptococcus pyogenes , Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis produced suppurative vaginitis either when inoculated in pure form or when inoculated in mixed form into adult female rabbits.
