Abstract There were very few reports on angular leaf spot disease in Egypt. Therefore, this investigation was carried out to describe the disease and to isolate and identify the causal pathogen, the effect of two insecticides Marshall and Cyanox on the morphologcal, biochemical activities of two cucumber varieties, Amira 101 and Madina 106 was also studied. The obtained results showed the following : 1 - Observations, made during 1992-1993 seasons, in the fields of Kfoor El-Raml, Menuofia Governorate showed an epidemic outbreak of a bacterial disease affecting cucumber. The disease was observed in all fields that has been studied. The plants developed severe irregular necrotic spots on leaves, stems and cotyledons. Disease symptoms were typical to those previously described for an,oular leaf spot. 2- 205 bacterial isolates were isolated from dlfferent plant parts that naturally Infected in studied localities . Pathogenicity trials, showed that only 60 isolates were able to Infect cucumber seedlings and induced angular leaf spot symptoms, but isolates dlfferent in the severity of the disease . Thlrty isolates were hghly pathogenic. 3- The dent thlrty isolates, showing typical angular leaf spot symptoms, were tested for identfication studies. Diagnostic tests including colony morphology, physiological and biochemical characters and pathogenicity trials suggested that the bacterial isolates to be Pseudomonas syringae pv. lacltrymans. This bacterial pathogen being a new record on cucumber in Menuofia Governorate. |
