Abstract

The untreated lube oil may contain some undesired constituents as, sulphur, oxygen, nitrogen compounds, and/or organometallic compounds. These compounds, especially sulphur, induce harmful effect on health and environment, cause pollution beside corrosion of instruments.
The different petroleum processes of crude oil, which were used for the production of a wax free oil are; (i) Atmospheric distillation, (ii) Vacuum distillation for production of vacuum residue, (iii) Deasphalting process of residue in order to extract asphaltenes and neutral resins using propane solvent, (iv) Extraction of aromatics using furfural solvent to produce raffinate and, (v) Dewaxing process using MEK-Toluene solvent mixture to produce untreated oil.
A laboratory analysis was conducted to determine the properties of both the wax free oil and hydrofinished oil. These properties are; specific gravity, colour, viscosity, viscosity index, sulphur content, nitrogen content, metal contents, total acidity, refractive index, carbon increment,
Idetermination of percentage carbon aromatic, carbon naphthene

land carbon paraffin.
