Abstract

in the presence of an air strewn, a surface water drop settled on a horizontal flat plate may be unstable due to small disturbances. Such air stream exists at the wall jet region developed due to impingement 6f a two dimensional plane jet on the flat plate. An experimental investigation, utilizing flow visualization techniques beside meterological methods, was conducted to recognize the physical hydro mass transport regimes associated with plane jet surface drop interaction. The influences of jet inclination angle (ф), surface to jet width ratio ( offset ratio Z* = Z/t ) and jet Reynolds number (Rej) were investigated. The hydro dynamical physical regimes of a surface drop exposed to an air stream are found to be the semi stagnant drop, the wave generation history, backward followed by foreward drop edge dislodging, and finally the complete drop ejection.
the flow field at the drop surface is characterized by a primary strong pair of vortices that occupies approximately two thirds of the drop surface, while a secondary weak pair , in a reversed image to the primary one, exists in the remainder one third of the surface. Such flow configuration is typically a form of Hill’s Sphrical vortex, modelling the internal flow in a droplet moving through a gas strewn.
