Abstract

‎ABSTRACT
‎In this Thesis, the structural behavior of thin-walled columns with different shapes of cross section under centerical and eccentricalloads is studied.
‎The differential equations relating to external and internal loads for column with unsymmetrical cross section are presented . The interaction between local and overall buckling of thin-walled beam-columns under different loading is analyzed by means of the general elastic stability theory. Initial imperfections and residual stresses are taken into consideration.
‎A numerical solution is introduced in order to solve the system of differential equations by using a combination of the finite difference and the successive approximation methods.
‎The verification of the analytical method is realized by using almost all-previous-tests results. The good agreement between tests and analytical results permits to give the proposed method a good validity in determining the critical loads as well as the behavior of columns for different cases of loading and end conditions.
‎The limits for the local buckling are studied for columns with C and Z cross sections and compared with the Egyptian Code, Euro Code and the American Code.
‎The critical load is calculated for C and Z sectior.s with lip and without lip, and for equal angle with lip under centerical and eccentricalloads . The charts are drawn to present these relationships.
‎The critical loads and the different deformations are calculated with a computer program coded in FORTRAN 77 by the author.
