Abstract This investigation is concerned with the prevalence of Brucella infection and evaluation of some serological tests used in Brucella diagnosis among cattle in some governorates under investigation (ElMenofeia, Beni Suef, El-Behera, Kafr E1-Shiekh, Cairo, El-Minia, Dammieta and Alexandria). A total of 4357 cattle serum samples were collected from different localities in these governorates under investigation during the period from September 1997 to September 1998. Sera from these cattle are examined for brucellosis by different serological tests including Buffered Acidified Plate Antigen Test (BAPAT), Rose Bengal Plate Test (RBPT), Tube Agglutination test (TAT), Complement Fixation Test (CFT) and Rivanol Test (Riv.T). Some of these cattle sera that showed a positive or suspicious result in any of these tests in addition to a group of negative sera were subjected to examination by Competitive Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay (cELISA). Total positive percentage of reactor among cattle in the 8 governorates under investigation was 10.92%. The infection was high among cattle of El-Behera governorate followed by EL-Minia, Beni Suef, EL-Menofeia and Cairo governorates and all of the examined cattle samples in Kafr ElShiekh, Dammieta and Alexandria governorates gave negative results. The percentages of positive BruceHa reactors were 10.21%, 12.12%, 5.26%, 25.68%, 0.0%, 13.04%, 0.0%, and 0.0% for ElMenofeia, Beni Suef, Cairo, El-Behera, Kafr El-Shiekh, El-Minia, Dammieta and Alexandria respectively. |
