Abstract

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of two different types of attachments on mandibular overdenture supporting structures. Twenty patients were selected for this study having two remaining mandibular canines and edentulous maxillary arch. Patients were randomly classified in to two groups. Group ’I’ received magnetic attachment mandibular overdenture. Group ’II’ received ball and socket attachments mandibular overdenture, both groups, the mandibular overdentures opposed by conventional maxillary complete dentures. The supporting structures the overdenture abutment were clinically evaluated by assessment of pocket depth using William’s graduated periodontal probe, and radiographically evaluated by assessment of bone loss change around the abutment using the Digora computerized system . Patients were frequently recalled at time of denture insertion, three, six, nine and twelve months after denture insertion for making records to evaluate the condition of the abutments and their supporting structures.
