Abstract

The power system should be running in a secure, reliable, continuous and economic manner. To keep these rour factors as good as possible, the power system should he controlled by well-trained and experienced engineers, called Dispatchers or Operators To facilitate Dispatchers / Operators’ job, they should be provided by fast, accurate, precise, clear, reliable and meaningful means to get the information required to help them taking the cOlTect action at the right time. One of the means is the Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition / Energy Management System (SCADAlEMS). SCADA/EMS System telemeters information from the remote sites (Power Stations or Sub-Stations) and transmits control commands to the equipment at the remote sites.
‎SCADAIEMS System consists of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) which are located in the remote sites to acquire the data required from the site, Communication Network to telemeter/transmit the data/control commands to/from the control center, and the soil ware that resides on servers and workstations that are located in the control center building.
‎In this thesis, the software portion of the SCADA/EMS System, specially Database (DB), Data Processing (DP), User Interfilce (Ur) and Operator Training Simulator (OTS) are highlighted to clarify some orthe main requirements that have to be Iljllilled, such as, flexibility, reusability, openness, security, and audit trailing for the database. Thc output of the data processing sub-filllction will affect directly on the amount and accuracy of feedback information (alarms and measured values) giyen to the dispatchers / operators which will affect on their decisions and hence the power system security, reliability, and continuity. VI is the only visible area from all the SCADNEMS System so, every single
‎. piece of information displayed should be what is the Dispatchers / Operators have to scc. taking into account that too much information or too little information has the samc sevc!’!ty like each other.
‎The main object of this thesis is to emphasize on preparation, addition, correction of • he Data and Database and code addition for the Operator Training Simulator (OTS) system fiJr Alexandria utility company All of that work aims at simulating St<1te Estinw.or functions. This simulation i3 divided into three parts in two dilTerent systems. First pm1 has heen done in the real-time SCADA system. which includes the database work (corre, tioll <1nd addition). The second pal1 is done in the OTS system, which includes thc sofhv
‎ mechanism required for transferring a copy of the real time data (including format modification) from the real-time SCADA system to the O1’S system The third part is populating that data into the OTS database This work has led to use the OTS systcm by Alexandria Regional Control Center (ARCC) Dispatchers / Opcrators and Nctwork Application Engineers and solving the OTS problems for starting load flow solution using a snapshot data taken from the Historical and Future Data (HFD) sub-systcm in case of Statc Estimator [ihscnce, special meter placement, lack of the information about thc External Network aile! not monitoring the feeders (loads) in the 11 KV level.
