المستخلص Children with symptomatic epilepsy have a 20-fold increased mortality risk, with sudden unexplained death (SUDEP) accounting for at least 12% of their deaths (Harvey et al., 1993; (Callenbach et al., 2001). The exact mechanism of SUDEP is unknown, but investigations have focused on autonomic instability such as changes of blood pressure, respiration, vasomotor tone, and ECG (Quint et al., 1990). Ictal as well as peri and intericatal abnormalities in ECG (sinus tachycardia, bradycardia, asystole, bundle branch block, QT interval abnormalities, ST expression, and T-wave inversion) were reported in epileptic adults (Detamont et al., 1999; Novak et al., 1999; Opherk et al, 2002; Zijlmans et al., 2002; Leutmezer et al., 2003). It was suggested that they may also contribute to SUDEP in children (Yang et al., 2001; Ferri et al., 2002; Akalin et al., 2003). |
