Abstract

Today considerable attention has been given worldwide to the production of gas oil because it has lower environmental pollution than other conventional car fuel types containing additives. The gas oil fraction produced from paraffinic crude oil in Egypt is about 17 wt%. This amount does not cover the national demands of this type of fuel. The increasing number of transportation vehicles, and personal cars, trucks beside the various uses of gas oil in Egypt is leading to a substantial increase in the consumption and production of gas oils.
The different petroleum processes for crude oil, which were used for the production of feedstock are; (i) Atmospheric distillation for production of fuel oil; (ii) Vacuum distillation of fuel oil for production of vacuum gas oil, spindle oil and light wax distillate of
western desert (W.D.) and Marine Belayiem (M.D.).
A laboratory analysis was conducted to determine the physico-chemical properties of(i) gas oil such as; total acidity, total sulphur, total nitrogen, structural group analysis, molecular weight, distillation, flash point, specific gravity, pour point, cloud point, kinematic viscosity, colour, refractive index, aniline point, metal contents, carbon residue, cetane index and diesel index, (ii) Naphtha such as; total sulphur content, composition, distillation, specific gravity and octane number, (ni) gases weight percent using gas chromatography.
The fluidity property (pour point) of gas oil has great importance in
the production of gas oil specification. According to the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, the pour point should not exceed zero degree Celsius. The feedstock which has higher pour point ( +27°C) has high
