Abstract In recent years the basic research on solid photochromic materials has grown, since, in addition to scientific interest, there is considerable interest in photochromic materials which, when dispersed in rigid plastic matrices, appear to be promising in areas such as communication, computer, microfilms and display systems Polymethylacrylic acid hydrazide is a potential good starting material to prepare a series of polymers containing pending groups of specific functionality. These pending group have the ortho-hydroxyazomethine system with potential photochemical properties including, photochromic, thermochromic, proton transfer and photoisomerization both in the solid state and in solution. Polymethylacrylic acid hydrazide and both poly(N-salicylidene «ethylacrylic acid hydrazide) and poly(N-pyridoxylidene methylacrylic hydrazide) as well as the corresponding monomeric N-salicylidene-N-pyridoxylidene acetyl hydrazines were prepared and characterized iterms of elemental analyses, infrared, thermal analyses, ultraviolet and able spectra as well as excitation and emission spectra. Effect of ition on these polymers were studied |
