Abstract

Physical anthropology is the science which deals with study of human beings. The differences in human body physique have been recognized long time ago. Many factors, whether intrinsic or extrinsic, interact during the period of growth of human individuals resulting in the final form of his body. The differences in human physique is not only of academic interest, many diseases were shown to be coincident with some body types such as diabetes mellitus for endomorphs, coronary heart diseases with mesomorphs and tuberculosis and schizophrenia for ectomorphs. On the other hand, ectomorphs were found to be best in physical and chemical researches, while mesomorphs were more suitable as army cadets and physical instructors.
Dermatoglyphics is the study of epidermal ridges and their configuration. Developmentally, these ridges are formed early in the first trimester of intrauterine foetal life under genetic control (polygenic inheritance). Once formed at about 13th week of foetal life, they do not change. Organogenesis normally takes place in the first three months of intrauterine life, on the bases of the same embryonic period, and also on the bases of stage of I formation of both; factors responsible for the establishment
