Abstract The corrosion problems in different constructions, especially water structures such as water tanks and also in highway bridges, suggested the use of new reinforcing rebars as an alternative of ordinary steel reinforcement. The coorosion problem occurs mainly due to lack of protection given by the concrete cover. The problem of steel reinforcement corrosion has regularly eant improving the quality of the concrete. But this approach has only limited success. Expensive remedial work is needed to repair this damage if the structure is to achieve its intended service life. Such repairs form a main part of the workload in the construction industry. The aim of the current work was to study the strengthening of concrete beam by increasing the reinforcement ratio utilizing GFRP rebars instead of conventional steel. In house manufacturing of FRP bars has been described in this research using locally available glass fiber roving and polyester to produce GFRP reinforcing bars. |
