Abstract
The main purpose of this thesis is to present assessment of some conformal projectil properties and its uses in mapping to show the advantage and disadvantage of each proper when applied in mapping of specific zones

The comparative study between different conformal projections and the properties I each one is mainly based on having a specific projection in order to evaluate the most suitab map for Syria.
Basic principles and foundations of map projections as well as their classification al presented.
A major part of this research is concerned with programs adopted for transformatior from one projection to another. .AJso, transformation equations of projection in algorithmi form are fully described.
The major feature of the thesis is devoted to study of distortion of the confonn. projections, mainly the line scale and area scale distortion. This is emphasized by construct in the distortion curves which enable the efficient comparison between different sorts c projection.
A great attention for application on the area of Syria and its criteria is paid from th point of view of the suitable conformal mapping and the resulting distortions.
Finally, some useful results, conclusions and recommendations concerning that phasl are pointed out.
