Abstract

Air pollution as a serious problem affect the environment is a very important item has to be assessed and implemented for urban development proposals. It can affect planning of areas, streets, related -highway, and the type of building considering its height, arrangement, and continuity.
‎High pollution levels are often observed in urban street canyon due to increased traffic emission and reduced natural ventilation. Recent researches have been conduced to study the influence of buildings and other urban structures on air flow patterns and pollutions dispersions in street canyons. Due to the rapid development of computer technology and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling, numerical and analysis becomes valuable tool in studying air flow and pollutants dispersing around buildings.
‎The study investigates the environmental impact assessment of air pollution nom traffic and its effects on urban development projects. This explains how air pollution affects planning of these projects and how it is affected by it. The study of weather, topography which takes part in pollutants dispersion within the canyon region to determine the configuration which has the best natural ventilation for the canyon. The studies show that the avenue street canyon is the best street canyon configuration in terms of natural ventilation. It also show that as the height of the pollutant source increases the pollutant concentration in the street canyon decreases, so it is necessary to plan highways around the urban areas in high levels as it is possible.
‎The design of urban areas and their transportation systems strongly influences emissions of urban air pollutants. smart growth can increase neighborhood convenience, consequently reducing driving to one- fourth or less , by increasing neighborhood density to raise the number of nearby destinations, including markets, restaurants and other commerce and services in residential neighborhood (mixed -use locating neighborhoods close to job centers, providing safe, attractive and convenient pedestrian and limiting parking), all these variables, considering . (Vehicle miles traveled- VMT) for neighborhoods within the regions help urbanization to be compatible with the environment.
