Abstract

‎The object of the present thesis is to simulate the chilled water system using the basic heat transfer equations and suitable empirical correlations. The simulation model shall consist of sub-model for each component ”empirical, experimental or thennodynamic model” of the chilled water system which integrated forming the system simulation model.
‎The weather data of Alexandria-Egypt during year 2006 were collected ftom http://www.wunderground.com to represents the dry bulb temperature with mean coincident humidity ratio and the hours of occurrence during the day time period. The collected weather data used for creating the system load profile for Alexandria. The annual operating hours for commercial building in Egypt will be calculated. where used as example.
‎The performance characteristics for each component of the system will be studied.
‎The performance study for three different systems will be represented. The systems to be studied are Constant-Primary-Flow system (CPF) ”conventional system”, Primary¬Secondary system (PS), and Variable-Primary-Flow system (VPF). For each system the integrated energy rate (IER), annual KWh and annual money payment and saving will be calcuIated to study the advantages of variable speed pumping in energy saving. especially in part load operation. Various operation strategies may be useful in part load operation to save the energy consumption. The restriction on the using different strategies will be represents.
‎In system analysis the building load expressed as a function of ambient dry bulb temperature by which load profile to reduce the number of inputs for the simulation model. The today energy price in Egyptian currency is used to sense the amount of variation in annual payment and saving. The model will be constructed for a IOOOTR, R-I34a centrifugal chiller which delivers the chilled water to 10 air handling units each of IOOTR capacity, serve a commercial building. The system components assembled forming (CPF), (PS), and (VPF) systems where the (CPF) system acts as a base case in energy consumption analysis. The study shows that the Variable-Primary-Flow (VPF) system can be considered as the best of three systems in part load the most life of the system.
